We’ll depart from our office in Baños in our private transport, taking in the dramatic scenery of the Waterfalls Route as the Andes open up into the lush Amazon basin. Our first stop is a vibrant local market in Puyo to sample seasonal exotic fruits or try a traditional roasted chontacuro, followed by a guided rainforest hike in the “Hola Vida Reserve”. Along the trail, we’ll uncover native medicinal plants and spot local wildlife on our way to a secluded jungle waterfall for a refreshing swim, before sitting down together to enjoy a hearty local lunch.
In the afternoon, we visit an authentic Kichwa indigenous community to discover their daily traditions, pottery craftsmanship, and blowgun hunting techniques. Next, we take to the water on a peaceful 30-minute wooden canoe ride, then head up to the Indichuris Viewpoint overlooking the confluence of the Pastaza and Puyo rivers—a prime spot to relax in the hammocks or fly out on the canyon swing. To cap off the day, we visit an artisan cacao farm to trace the chocolate-making process from pod to bean and brew a fresh cup of hot chocolate before returning to Baños around 8:00 PM. Rain is a natural and essential part of the Amazon rainforest! Tours run rain or shine. We provide rain ponchos, and the canopy often shields us along the trails. Just bring a dry change of clothes to leave in the transport.
